About Ms. Oates
My name is Jackie Oates, and I am so excited to be here at AZACS! I am the Special Education Program Manager for the Early Learning Center, and could not be more thrilled to be working with such an amazing team of educators.
To give you a bit of my background, I grew up in Michigan but did a lot of moving both stateside and overseas. My husband and I moved to Arizona in 2008, joining our families who ventured here a couple years prior. Even though I've been here for 12 years now, I feel like I'm still getting used to the desert heat! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, taking family bike rides, practicing yoga with my daughter, and just enjoying time spent with friends and family.
Professionally, I have been working in early childhood special education for the last 12 years in public school settings. For the first 6 years, I was teaching in self-contained developmental preschools, and then moved to teaching students a K-2 self-contained classroom working with students with ASD. About 4 years into my teaching career, I realized that I wanted to focus on and was passionate about teaching and supporting students with Autism. This led me back to school where I earned my master's degree in education with a focus on Autism.
During that same time, I became a National Board Certified Teacher as an Exceptional Needs Specialist; something I am very proud of. My heart and soul is teaching which has led me to my new passion: helping teachers be successful educators in the classroom . It is my goal to be able to support students, staff, and families to the best of my abilities while I'm here at AZACS. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your families this school year!
